Brian and I booked 9 double rooms at the Hotel Hackteuful. The dates are from April 30, 2010 to May 3, 2010 (3 nights). The price is 129 Euro per room. It is a great hotel right in the heart of the old town. All the pubs and shops are centrally located around this hotel. The rooms are two single beds and then pushed together to make a double. This is very common in Europe. Please let us know if you will take one of the rooms. We will need to know at least a month out so we can cancel any extra rooms. Tips and Information
- Germany is in GMT +1, that's +7 hrs for CST and +6 for EST. This will change with daylight savings time. 1 pm in Wisco = 8 pm in Germany
- Germany has the Euro as its currency. There's a currency converter on this page
- To convert km into miles (you'll need this trick if you rent a car and keep looking at the MPH) is divide by two and add the first one or two numbers. i.e. 100/2 = 50....50 + 10 = 60 miles. I get the 10 because the first two numbers in 100 is 10. 100 km is roughly 60 miles. 70 km is roughly 42 miles. 35 + 7 = 42
- They will speak English there. There is also a huge US Army post located in Heidelberg. You may run into some Joes. Just what Brian wants he he, but nice for the single ladies. LoL
- To travel in Europe is a lot easier than America. Cars, trains, busses, and air are very accessible. In the websites posted, there is a lot of information regarding travel.
- The ATMs will take your VISA (I can't speak for MasterCard or American Express). You will get the best exchange rate on the street ATMs. Not the airports or conversion windows. Becasue VISA is taken everywhere I'd steer away from traveler's checks. They're not really needed anymore and the banks here and there will not give a good exchange rate.
- Frankfurt (FRA) is the closest airport to Heidelberg at 78.5 km. That's about 45 minutes by car.
